Alexandra “Alex” Scott’s heroic endeavor to raise money for childhood cancer started off with one small lemonade stand. As her neighbor, I remember the day she set up that first stand on our street. Shortly after she began her first stand in Connecticut, the Scott Family moved to our street in Pennsylvania to be closer to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. It was pouring rain that day in Penn Wynne, PA but that did not stop Alex. She was steadfast in her conviction. Her mission: to cure cancer for all children. Not just kids with Neuroblastoma or at CHOP but all children with any kind of cancer. As with so many others, I am moved by her strength.
What an amazing progression this stand experienced. All that love put into that first little stand has created a huge national movement. What started as a small stand on our street, quickly grew to a lineup down the block. From there, the crowds grew and grew. Several thousand dollars earned at the first stand became $250 million raised over the years. I remember looking on in amazement at the lineup of cars that gathered. Her story resonates as it gives us all the hope that we too, could stand up in the face of such adversity and be so strong.
On behalf of the Steinberg family and the Center for Lice Control Lice Products, we’ve been proud contributors to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer. We contribute a portion of our all CLC product sales to ALSF. Our mascot, Captain KaPOW, wears yellow in support of our own hometown superhero, Alex Scott. Her memory and mission endures.
